WeatherEagle®105 and WeatherEagle®110
Commercial Grade NOAA Weather Radio
Receiver, Scanner, Recorder and Customer Programmable Interface

WE110 Stand- Alone

WE110R Rack-mount
For Field Operations and Mobile Command Vehicles
Designed for moderately high RF environments, the Weather Eagle®105 (WE105) and WeatherEagle®110 (WE110) are stand-alone radio/receivers, which decode the 1050-hz tone used by the National Weather Service (NWS) for weather alerts.
The WE105 and WE110 provide alert-logic relay closure and ‘muted’ or ‘unmuted” (audible-tone) audio outputs to the Alert Eagle®120 and Alert Eagle®400 EAS/SAME decoders and to other devices.
The MRI-100 multi-radio interface connects the WE105 and WE110 to trunked radio systems and controls the WE105 and WE110 by DTMF (touch tone) and by ascii text commands across the Internet.
At the request of emergency management clients, we created the WE110, based on the field-proven features of the WE105 but with a smaller footprint (approx. 7" x 5.25" x 1.5") for use in emergency vehicles where space is critical. The WE110 is configured either as a stand-alone unit with a plastic case or as the WE110-R rack-mounted unit. The WE110 is also available rack-mounted with the Alert Eagle®120 SAME/EAS decoder. The WE105 is the receiver is used with the Alert Eagle® 400.
Both receivers automatically change channels to the strongest NWR signal to capture weather alerts from anywhere in the United States and Canada, including all seven NOAA Weather channels (162.400; 162.425; 162.450; 162.475; 162.500; 162.525; 162.550 MHz). Other frequencies are available on special order.
With a user settable menu setting, each scan cycle of the WE105/110 automatically finds the strongest Weather channel. The unit can be set to scan on power-up and/or every 60 seconds and/or upon power-up to the last selected channel. You can disable the scan routine for EAS/SAME decoding.
How It Works
The units will beep and an LED will flash when decoding a 1050-Hz alert tone. You can disable the beep in the set-up mode. Most users disable the 1050-Hz beep when the WE105/110 is used for SAME/EAS decoding.
When the WE105/WE110 detects a 1050 Hz tone, the WE105/110 closes a relay, and the unit goes into alert mode for a user settable period of time between 1 second and 18 hours. If another alert tone is issued while a first alert is active, the unit will beep, automatically reset and keep the system in alert mode for a new full preset alert period.
The units record the last four minutes of warning audio for later playback and verification. The recording does not need battery back-up. The ‘Record’ LED will flash when the ‘Record’ chip is either recording or playing back an alert.
The WE110 has a 1050-Hz lock LED that indicates when the alert signal is being received (LED is on solidly), when the transmitter is operating normally (LED flashing randomly), when the transmitter has no audio (LED off) and when the transmitter is off the air (LED flashing constantly). This is a great diagnostic feature, based on the patented FSK lock led on the Alert Eagle® 120 and 400.
LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) indicate channel selection, scan mode, 1050-Hz alert decoded, and ‘live’ and ‘'play’ modes.
Switches are provided for manual channel selection, scan mode, reset last warning, LED/mute receiver, play and live. All switches are remotely controllable by logic inputs from a 15-pin connector on the rear of the unit.
Using a simple, standard PC program, such as Hyperterminal, (9600 baud 8-N-1) the unit can easily be configued in the field.
